Waking up in middle of the night doesn't lend itself to clear thinking. Especially when the night is so dark and the bed is so comfortable and I'm dreaming about something really nice (like exacting revenge on the wild cat that's been killing all the chicks at Y.Y.). Two nights ago I woke up to go for a short call (the bathroom) and I neglected to put my glasses on. In the bathroom I noticed a brownish blackish blob in the bottom of my shower. I proceeded with my business and climbed back into bed. The next morning when I was more "with it" I put my glasses on and opened the bathroom door to find a rather large scorpion in my shower! I gasped just thinking about what could have happened last night then I gasped again when it scuttled across the shower after I prodded it with a very long stick. I quickly retrieved my "Bop" insecticide and sprayed the snot out of the scorpion. I left it to die as I went for a long staff meeting. When I returned it was dead (thankfully) so I removed it. Now I'm hyper aware of shaking all my clothes and sheets before using them because of the pain I've heard scorpions can inflict on an innocent, unaware person.
School is coming to an end and all of the teachers are hard a work, marking hundreds of papers and recording totals on the report cards. As an English teacher at the Primary School I got in on the long process of marking papers for two days straight. I was also fortunate to help with marking at the secondary school. My hand is tired of making check marks and Xs Soon the students will receive their report cards and be other their way home leaving the staff with a well earned holiday.
