I just spent most of the last week in Canada, Winnipeg to be more precise. I was there to meet with all of those who do communications work throughout the MCC system. That meeting was followed by a two day meeting of an organization called Anabaptist Communicators, made up of all types of communications professionals from organizations, institutions and denominations as well as Anabaptists working in public media outlets.
While all of the meetings were valuable, the one quote that sticks with me is from Gayle Goessen, one of the speakers. She said, "No one cares what your mission statement is, they want to know what you DO!"
Think about that for a minute. I know she was not advocating not having a clear mission statement. She was making sure we understand that while it is important to HAVE a mission statement, it is more important to SHOW the mission statement through what we are doing.
What do you think? Does this make sense to you? I always like to hear what you have to think.
