Kit distribution in Iraq

While Mennonite Central Committee can't talk a lot about it for security reasons, we are looking to people in Canada and the United States to help us create kits for shipment to Iraq.  As the war enters a new year, please show your support by giving one or more of the needed kits.  You can learn more at the following Web address.

DC United scored in the last minute to tie Chivas from Mexico at 1-1.  Nearly 30,000 people came out in the rain and cold temps for this one.  It never fails to amaze me how far fans will travel to see their team play.  Someone who was at the game said they felt like "half of the cars here are not from here!"  The two teams play again in Guadalajara in a couple weeks.

Sometimes it is the little things

One of the huge benefits of working at MCC is learning about exciting work happening all over the world.  One week I am working with a group of MCC and other staff who are meeting with the President of Iran and the next week hearing about water projects in Africa.  This week, however, I have been struck by something far more basic and simple.  Take a moment to read about how a simple furniture dolly is helping newcomers to Toronto settle into their new surroundings.

As one of MCC's resident soccer fans, I have collected soccer stuff from all over the world.  Here is a picture of the rowdy fans in Washington DC.  Next week the team plays Chivas from Mexico in the first match of a two game series to decide who will go to the championship of CONCACAF, the confederation of North American, Central American and Caribbean soccer.  Of all the sporting events I have attended, the crowds at these games are the most diverse!  This group even has two names, The Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava.  You will see Bolivian, Brazilian, US and other flags being waved by this group!

Hello and Welcome!

As Media and Education Coordinator for Mennonite Central Committee,  I run into all kinds of good information about the work of MCC.  My goal is to use this blog to share about these things as well as other things connected to my work here.  Be warned, however, you might find the odd soccer comment or pictures of my wife and son as we go forward.  Please feel free to give me comments, suggestions or even ask questions!
